It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Dwaquente McQueen of Society Hill. Mr. McQueen transitioned on Friday evening, January 3, 2020 in a Hartsville medical facility.
Funeral service is 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Bethesda Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Dwaquente Roderick “Sosa” McQueen was born in Darlington County on February 3, 1987, the oldest son of Alvin Dwayne McQueen and the late LaFrances Ross. He departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville, SC after an illness.
Dwaquente attended Mt. Tema Missionary Baptist Church, Hartsville, SC with his mother during his early years. Later in life, he attended Bethesda Baptist Church, Society Hill, SC.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Darlington and Florence Counties.
Dwaquente work life included various jobs at: Mohawk Industries in Bennettsville, SC, Fiber Industries in Darlington, SC and Harbor Freight in Dillon, SC.
“SOSA” will be remembered for his sense of humor and interacting with his family and friends. He enjoyed football as a #1 fan of the Dallas Cowboys. “SOSA” will be missed tremendously by his family and so many others whose lives he touched.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are: his twin daughters: Aubree Ponds and Layla Ponds both of Bethune, SC; his parents: Alvin (Angela) McQueen of Darlington, SC; his grandmother, Willie Lee Ross of Cheraw, SC; two brothers: Devonta McQueen of Society Hill, SC and Deyonta Robinson of Columbia, SC; two uncles: Warren (Wendy) McQueen of Darlington, SC and Calvin (Valerie) Ludd of Columbia, SC; one aunt, Angela (Carl) Isaac of Hartsville, SC; a host of grandaunts, granduncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, LaFrances Denise Ross and his grandparents: Deacon Hazel McQueen and Julia Jackson McQueen.
Visitation for the McQueen family will be held at the residence of his father and step-mother, Dwayne and Angela McQueen, 1243 Meadow Lark Lane, Darlington.
