It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Donnie "Don Ray" Jackson of Darlington. Mr. Jackson expired on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service is 11:00am on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in the church yard of Bethesda Baptist Church. Mask wearing and social distancing is required for this service. Interment will be 10 AM on Monday, January 4, 2021 in Florence National Cemetery.
Obituary
Mr. Donnie Ray Jackson born on April 13, 1955 in Darlington County. He was the son of the late Mr. Willie James Jackson, Sr. and Mrs. Sarah Perkins Jackson. Donnie was one of eight children. He transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, December 28, 2020 in Carolina Regional Medical Center, Hartsville, SC after a brief illness.
He received his formal education in Darlington County Public School System. Donnie Ray was a proud graduate of Rosenwald High School, Class of 1973.
He served his country in the United States Army. In the service, he was a sharpshooter and airborne. Donnie Ray was honorable discharged.
Donnie Ray was gainfully employed with various jobs throughout the United States. He was a scaffold foreman and worked in this career for 27 years. After 27 years, he became disabled and had to retire. He loved his job!
In Donnie Ray’s early life, he was baptized and joined Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church.
He was united in holy matrimony to the former Miss Linda Ann Green. This union was blessed for 44 years and together they had 4 children; Latoya Jackson and Marcus Jackson preceded him in death.
He will be forever remember and those left to cherished his memories: his beloved wife; Linda Ann Jackson of the home; his two children: Donnie Ray (Candice) Jackson, Jr. of Darlington and Kend’rick Jackson of the home; his ten grandchildren: Craig Nixon of the home, Jyheeme Lucas, Dontae Jackson, Dasia Jackson, Aleshia Jackson, Donnae Jackson, Kennedi Brown, Marcus Jackson, Jaden Jackson, Zariah Jackson; his two great grandchildren; his step brother: Elder James (Shirley) Sanders of Dovesville; his two step sisters: Shirley Sanders and Jackie McClain both of Hartsville; his mother-in-law, Arsencia (Henry) Isaac of Society Hill; his sisters-in-law: Loretta Isaac of Florence and Inga Jackson of Bennettsville; his brother-in-law: Henry (Marjorie) Isaac of Darlington; his special cousins: Roosevelt Perkins of Darlington, Randolph Sims of New York and Aaron Breland of Dovesville; a host nieces, nephews, and other cousins.
Donnie Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Mattie Jackson, Robert Jackson, Willie Jackson, Bessie Jackson Rumph, Berry Jackson, George Jackson, Raymond Jackson, (Don Ray was the final link to this chain); his mother and father-in-law: David and Martha Green of Orangeburg, SC.
Visitation for relatives and friends is at the residence, 807 Swett Road, Society Hill, SC.
