It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the McKenzie/Pratt families share the passing of Mr. DeWayne Shawn McKenzie of Columbia, SC, formally of Darlington, SC. Mr. McKenzie passed on Friday, September 02, 2022 in Columbia, SC.

Funeral service is 1:00PM on Friday, September 09, 2022 in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.  Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens. 

Public viewing is from 3:00PM to 6:00PM on Thursday, September 8, 2022 in Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. 

Obituary

Dewayne Shawn Anthony McKenzie was born in Conway, SC on August 14, 1972. He is the son of Deacon David and Naomi Pratt. Shawn transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal home on Friday, September 2, 2022.

Shawn was educated in the Darlington County School District. Shawn went to Saint John’s High School and later received his GED diploma.

At an early age, Shawn was converted, baptized in Jesus’ name, and became a member of Christ Temple Holiness Church in Darlington, SC under the leadership of Bishop Wallace Johnson. He was a business owner called McKenzie & Company, Inc. He was the best salesman. He could talk you into buying anything with his persuasive charm.

Shawn was a loving and caring father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend. He was known for his jokes and his smirk. Friends and family lovingly called him SKI. While growing up, he loved to spend time with his siblings and cousins. You could find him at the center of the group making everyone laugh with his wit and charisma. He could outsmart anyone with his clever ideas and laidback attitude. If he passed you on the street, you would instantly know that it was him because of his signature pimp walk. His go-to phrase was “Man, that’s somethin’ serious.” He was very protective over his family and the people he loved and cared about.

Dewayne Shawn Anthony McKenzie was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Mary Ballard McKenzie and Weldon McKenzie, and his paternal grandmother, Rosa Lee Pratt.

McKenzie of Florence, SC, and a host of cousins, friends, and other living relatives, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Visitation for relatives and friends is held at the residence of his parents, David and Naomi Pratt, 1316 Mechanicsville Highway, Darlington.
