It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Russell family announces the passing of Mr. David Lee "Poppa Do" Russell of Darlington. Mr. Russell passed on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at his residence.
Funeral service is 12:00 Noon on Sunday, March 6, 2022 in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Yard. Private Interment. Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing for this service.
Obituary
Mr. David Lee “Poppa Do” Russell was born in Darlington County, South Carolina on May 12, 1966 a son of the late Ernest Russell, Sr. and Rachel Cherry Russell. He departed this life on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at his residence after an illness.
He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School System. He was a member of Mayo High School, Class of 1984.
“Poppa Do”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a loving father, brother, uncle, cousin and family member. Shopping and dressing nice was his hobby. He was a very out-spoken man and always had a big smile on his face to show his pearly white teeth. To know him was to love him. He will be dearly missed by his family who dearly loved him.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are: his son, Ke-ce-Lonta “Zack” Russell; three siblings: Ernestine Russell Wingate, Betty Jean Russell Goodson and Charles (Joyce) Russell all of Darlington, SC; many nieces, nephews all of South Carolina; a host of cousins; long-life companion also mother of his child, Diana Williamson of Darlington, SC; his companion, Meka Ebron and her son, Merqauillus Frazier of Darlington, SC.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rachel “Tut” Cherry Russell; two brothers: Ernest “Boy” Russell, Sr. and Robert Russell.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a sister, Ms. Ernestine Russell Wingate, 229 Ridge Road, Darlington.
