Mr. David Jones, Jr.

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Joint and Jones families announce the passing of Mr. David Jones, Jr., of Darlington, SC. Mr. Jones exchanged time for eternity on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at MUSC-Florence after an illness. 

Funeral service will be 12:00 PM noon, Monday, August 5, 2024, at Round O Baptist Church, 1900 Society Hill Rd, Darlington, SC. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the United States National Cemetery-Florence, 803 E National Cemetery Rd, Florence, SC. 

Obituary

    Mr. David Jones, Jr. was born in Darlington County on November 20, 1950 a son of the late David “Gift” Jones, Sr. and Fannie Mae Green Adams. David exchanged his time for eternity on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at MUSC-Florence, after an illness.

    He received his formal education in the Darlington County public schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1969. David served his country in the Vietnam Conflict from December 1970 to December 1971 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service medal, Combat Infantryman’s badge and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was employed for many years with US Cotton Division of Florence, SC, as a Maintenance Technician until his health declined. 

    David, more so known as “Bro or DJ” by his family and friends, was most proud of the title Dad, Granddaddy, and Uncle DJ/Bro. He loved his family and loved to make those around him laugh. Bro was a straight shooter; he would tell you like it is and may hurt your feelings, but you knew you were loved. David rededicated his life to Christ in 2010 and became a member of Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Survivors left to cherish his memory are: his daughter, DeeDee (Charles) Shannon of Belton TX; his sons: David Dixon, Michael Joint and Darrell Jones all of Darlington, SC; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his two sisters: Annie Wilds of Columbia, SC and Lois Adams of Darlington, SC; his two brothers: Levon Jones of Aiken, SC and Robert (Mary) Foster of Darlington, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    He was preceded in death by: his parents David “Gift” Jones, Sr., and Fannie Mae Green Adams; his wife, Elizabeth “Plum” Joint Jones; his sons: Antwain “Kojak” Jones and Fredrick Williams; his sisters: Margaret Jones, Lille Mae Mills, and Shirley Jones-Slater.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held starting Thursday, August 1st at the residence of a son, Michael “Kita” Jones, 3520 Squirt Rd, Darlington.
