Mr. Daniel “Bubba” McNeil, Jr.

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Daniel “Bubba” McNeil, Jr. of Darlington. Mr. McNeil passed on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at his residence following an illness. 

Memorial service is 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. Daniel McNeil, Jr. was born on December 10th, 1951 in Darlington, South Carolina a son of Mary Louise James McNeil and the late Daniel McNeil, Sr.   He transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday, October 29th, 2023 at his residence in Darlington, SC.

He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools where he attended Mayo High School. 

“Bubba”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was employed at Willie Benjamin’s garage as a mechanic.

 Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Becky Mae McNeil of Darlington, SC;  his mother,  Mary Louise Zimmerman; a son, Darryl Witherspoon of Darlington, SC;  three brothers: Timothy Zimmerman of NC, James Earl Zimmerman and Adolphus James both of New York; five sisters: Nettie Mae McNeil of Delaware, Brenda McNeil of New Jersey, Margaret McNeil of South Carolina, Mildred McNeil and Valarie Zimmerman both of New York, 15 nephews; 13 nieces; three brothers-in-law, Willie (Patricia) McNeil, Moses (Neta) Williams and James McNeil all of Darlington, SC; a sister-in-law, Shirley Miller of Society Hill, SC; cousins, other relatives and friends.

Daniel McNeil was a man who marched to the beat of his own drum. He enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. Although his presence will be missed, we can remember him by the famous poem Remember Me by Anthony Dowson.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of a son, Mr. Darryl Witherspoon, 106 Gandy St., Darlington.
