Obituary

Mr. Brian Lindell Wingate, Jr. was born in Florence, South Carolina on October 6, 1996 a son of Brian Lindell Wingate, Sr. and Relisha Sutton Wingate.  He departed this life on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 in Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA after an illness.

He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo Magnet School, Darlington, SC.   He furthered his education at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.

He made his home in Arlington, VA where he worked at Meridian Clinical Research, Potomac, Maryland as a Site Director.  Recently he was employed at Javara, Inc. (Clinical Research Center) in Annapolis, Maryland as Manager, Site Operations. A special thanks to Latiffa Kabba for opening up her home to “BJ’ during this time.

To highlight “BJ”, who embodied this spirit even before he was born. From the very beginning, he was curious, a problem solver, and a source of warmth for our family. “BJ” was more than just our nephew; he was a beacon of brilliance. He had an innate ability to help others navigate their challenges, offering solutions and companionship whenever it was needed. He was our family’s genius, always ready to listen, to support, and to uplift those around him. Thanks to the incredible lessons instilled in him by his father—a hardworking man who taught him the value of resilience and intelligence. BJ’s mother also played a crucial role in shaping his compassionate nature, nurturing his understanding of love and the importance of helping others.

He was always striving for excellence and planning to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor.

Those left to cherish his memory are:  his parents:  Brian Lindell Wingate, Sr. and Relisha Wingate; four brothers:  Diondre (Janashia) Wingate, Malcolm Wingate, Xavier Repass and Morgan Timmons; niece, Nova Wingate, nephew, Noah Wingate; his grandmother, Ethel T. Turner; his grandfather, William Alston;  his god-father, Matthew Dunham; uncles: Tyrone (Dora) Sutton, Howard (Tonya) Sutton, Jermaine (Jennifer) Sutton, Kotese (Tasha) Williams, Tron (Joy) Williams, Gerald (Jackie) Sutton; Aunts: Teresa Sutton, Evelyn (Johnny) Nelson, Tammy Alston, Jaleisa Turner and Lynn Rogers; a host of great aunts, uncle, cousins and friends.

Though God has called him home, BJ’s legacy will forever shine brightly among us. He is our guiding light, reminding us of the healing and prosperity that come from love and unity.  Brian Wingate Jr. may be gone, but his spirit and impact will continue to inspire us.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence of his parents, Brian L. Wingate, Sr., and Relisha Sutton Wingate, 1345 Mt. Sinai Drive, Darlington.
