Mr. Bernard Scott

With heartfelt sympathy, the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and members of the Cotton and Scott families announce the passing of Mr. Bernard Scott of Darlington, SC. Mr. Scott transitioned on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The family will be receiving friends daily from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the residence, 312 Blue St, Darlington, SC. The family has requested all visitors to please wear masks.

Public viewing will be 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday, August 25, 2025 at Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., 612 S Main St, Darlington, SC.

Graveside funeral services and interment will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 3208 N. Governor Williams Hwy, Darlington, SC. 

Obituary

Mr. Bernard Scott was born on December 2, 1971 in Darlington, South Carolina a son of Georgia Cotton Johnson and the late Edward Scott, Sr.  He entered his eternal resting place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 in Spartanburg, SC.

He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School System, where he was a member of St. John’s High School Class of 1990.  He later obtained his GED in 1991.

“Bruh”, as he was affectionately called by his family, lived most of his life in Darlington, SC, where he remained in his childhood residence.  Most recently, Bernard resided in Wellford, SC and was gainfully employed at Lear Corporation in Duncan, SC. Bernard loved working at Lear and spoke highly of his co-workers and the organization.

Those left to cherish his memories are: his mother, Georgia Cotton Johnson; three brothers: Edward Scott, Jr., Adam Scott both of Matthews, NC and Shawn Scott of New York; one sister, Wanda Cotton of Darlington, SC; other siblings: Timothy Cotton, Tanya Scipio, Joey (Kitiana) Scipio, Joel Scipio, George (Kathy) Scipio, Sammie (Stacy) Scipio, Isaac Alford, Jr., Tinisha Alford and Dewayne Green; three nephews: DaQuan (Megan) Scott of Charlotte, NC, Jaden Scott and Taylen Scott both of Matthews, NC; uncles: Tommy (Peggy) Cotton, Isaac Alford, Elliot Scott and Lonnie Scott, Jr.; his aunts: Letha (Duffy) Skinner, Julia S Davis, Gina Faye Campbell, Janice Joe, Patricia Damon all of Darlington, SC; Renee Green of Timmonsville, SC and  Sharon Deas of Georgia; a host of cousin, other relatives and friends; special friends: Josh Weatherford, Larry Barnes, Jessica Blackmon and Brexton Kendall.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Scott, Sr.; his maternal grandparents: George and Julia Cotton; his paternal grandparents: Lonnie and Martha Scott; his sister-in-law: Tara Scott; his aunts: Mary E Scipio, Shirley A Cotton, Peggy Campbell, Carrie (Truth) Pooler and Virginia C Alford; and a sister, Thomasina Peterson.
