Obituary
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” ~II Timothy 4:7
Mr. Bennie Lee Boston, 70, of Darlington, SC transitioned on March 5, 2021. Bennie was born on January 24, 1951 to the late James Boston, Jr. and Lettie Bess Boston of Lamar, SC. Bennie shared the same birthdate as his mother and was reared in South Carolina and New York City. He completed his education in Darlington County School System and graduated from Spaulding High School Class of 1969. Also, Bennie completed his Associate’s Degree from Florence-Darlington Technical College in 1972 majoring in Machine Shop Technology and Tool & Dye Maker.
Bennie loved to work, for he was known to whistle while he worked, and the dirtier the job the more happier, he was at work. As a mechanic, he had over 20 years with Superior Machine shop in Florence, SC, 6 years at Phillip Morris in Concord, NC and 6 years with Dixie Cup in Darlington, SC—where he retired in September 2014.
While attending and growing up in Lamar Church of God, he met the love of his life, the former Sharon Sanders, and they were married in holy matrimony on June 1, 1974. Out of this union, were five children. When they made their home in Darlington, SC, Bennie and Sharon started their lives and worshiped at Lee Street Church of God. After a horrific accident in April 27, 1993, Bennie gave his whole heart to the Lord and joined the membership at Lee Street Church of God. While serving God, Bro. Boston wore many hats. He served as the Church Sexton, Secretary of the Trustee Board, Chairman and Vice Chairman of Brotherhood, Youth Sunday School Teacher, Member of Mass and Brotherhood Choir, Chairman of the Pulpit Committee, Budget Committee, Benevolence Committee, and his love—Prison Farm Ministry. On the South Carolina State Presbytery Church of God, he served as the canteen operator and clean-up committee for Youth and State Convention. Bennie had deep love and passion for the Church of God because that’s all he knew, for his favorite spot was sitting in the church library—having a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper.
He leaves to mourn forever cherished memories with his wife of 46 years, Sharon Sanders Boston; three sons: Bennie G. Boston, Jr., Palmer S. Boston and Joseph T. Boston, Sr. (Sylvia); one daughter, Chelsea S. Boston; one daughter-in-love, Marceda Richardson. Bennie has two sisters: Helen Boston Spann and Delphine Simon; one aunt, Corine B. Price. To continue his legacy, Bennie has 9 grandchildren (6 girls and 3 boys) and 2 great-granddaughters. One special son, Lorenzo Gattison and Family. Bennie leaves a host of nieces, nephews, Lee Street Family, community children and friends along with a very special friend and former coworker, Jimmy Carter and family.
Bennie was preceded in death by: his father and mother, James Boston, Jr. and Lettie Bess Boston; son, Benjamin L. Richardson; daughter-in-love, Shan Combs Boston and a brother, James Boston III.
