Obituary

On Saturday, 2 April 2022, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC, Mr. Bennie Gene Price, a father, a brother and friend, passed away at the age of 78. He was born in Darlington County, South Carolina on 21 April 1944, a son of the late Edgar and Lidar Mack Price. He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School.  At an early age, he was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Lamar, SC and later faithfully attended Mary Magdalene Baptist Church, Lamar, SC.

Bennie was also known as: “Daddy”, “Price”, “Dad”, “Pops”, “PaPa” and affectionately called “Uncle Festas” by his several nieces and nephews.  He was an extremely hard worker. Bennie was employed and retired with Daniel Construction as a Construction Foreman. He most enjoyed being a brick mason since it gave the opportunity to teach other young men the trade; no one could top him at his craft. He traveled the world, training many along the way. He loved baseball, hunting and fishing; baseball being his favorite.

Bennie was a passionate person who showed a lot of emotions. He was no stranger to anyone; he loved all and had no reservations about speaking his mind. His love as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend will be missed by all who knew him.  He was a caring and devoted husband to his late wife, Bettie Edmond Price. Including their own children, they raised many children in their home over the years. They never turned anyone away and made sure everyone felt as though they belonged. They always spoke, “Blood don’t make you family, love makes you family.”

He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Bettie E. Price; two sons: Audray Price and Anthony Dargan (Marine Veteran); a granddaughter, Taylor Price; three brothers: Harry Price, Richard Price, Sr., Frankie Price; two sisters: Marjorie Price Martin and Evelina Price Byrd.

Those left to cherish his memory: his children: CDR Gregory B. (Marcenia) Price (Active Navy) of Washington Navy Yard, Washington, DC, Dr. Tonya D. (Tony) Carrington, Ph.D. (Army Veterans) of Stafford, VA, Lamont D. Price (Marine Corp Veteran), the twins - Derric “Shaq” Price (Navy Veteran) and Darric “Darrico” Price (Navy Veteran) all of Lamar, SC; a grandson he reared as his own, Christopher D. Price of Greenville, SC; an adopted son/caretaker, Anthony Kirkland; Heart-tied Sons - Charlie Knotts of Lamar, SC, Tony Brown (Marine Corp Veteran) of Cocoa Beach, Florida; Keith Kapehart (Marine Corp Veteran) of Panama City, Florida, Johnnie (Jizz) Hughes (Marine Corp Veteran) of New York, and so many more; fifteen other amazing grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Saundra) Price of Florence, SC; one sister, Edna Louise Pettigrew of Lamar, SC; three sisters-in-law, Bertha “Pat” Dizzley of Bishopville, SC, Corine Price of Lamar, SC and Brenda Rouse of Elliot, SC; one uncle, William “Bill” Mack of Brooklyn, NY; two aunts: Sally (Aaron) Green of Brooklyn, NY and Reverend Catherine Mace Adams of Clio, SC; a host of wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

People will forget what you said, People will forget what you did,

but People will never forget how you made them feel.
