Funeral service for Mr. Barney "B.W." Wingate will be 12 Noon Saturday, July 4, 2015 in Shiloh United Methodist Church (Syracuse Community). Rev. Darren McClam, Pastor. Rev. William S. James, Officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., Darlington.
Mr. Wingate died Saturday, June 27th at his residence. He was born in Darlington County a son of the late Oliver (Ollie Faye) and Fannie Mae Aaron Wingate. At an early age, he joined Shiloh United Methodist Church. Later he relocated to New York where he was employed by Nassau County Parks & Recreation Department of which he retired. Later he moved to Darlington where he rededicated himself to Shiloh United Methodist Church; there he served as a member of the United Methodist Men and an instrumental part in the beautification of the church and cemetery.
Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, Minnal Wingate; a god-daughter, Michele Simmons; 2 sisters: Mae O. Wingate-Legette and Christina S. Lytle; 4 sisters-in-law: Lillian (Edward) Fowler, Mildred Hardy, Donnie Lizzmore and Dorothy James; 3 brothers-in-law: Elijah Wilson, Carlton (Maggie) Benton and Silas (Mary Lee) Benton; nieces: Audrey Wilson, Michelle Wilson, Crishelle (Nate) Kinlaw; a great niece, Keyanna Wilson-Blakely; one nephew, William (Carlotta) Legette, Jr.; a host of additional nieces, nephews and cousins. His second mother, Gladys Scipio Wingate; Special friends: Donald Garner, Larry Samuel, Leon Pooler and Luther B. Johnson. He was preceded by a sister, Tillie L. Wingate-Wilson and a god-daughter, LaTrisha A. Wilson.The family is receiving friends at the residence daily from 4 to 8 p.m., 1302 Glendale Drive, Hartsville.
