Obituary
Mr. Asberry DeWitt was born on December 20, 1951 in Lee County, South Carolina, a son of the late Mattie Lucas DeWitt and Lonnie DeWitt. He entered his final rest Monday, January 5, 2026 at his residence.
He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public School System. After completing high school, Asberry moved to Richmond, Virginia where he lived for two years. He later made his home in Baltimore, Maryland where he was employed at Kernan Hospital as a Physical Therapist Assistant for more than 20 years. Following his retirement from Kernan Hospital, Asberry returned home to South Carolina. He remained there until God called him home to rest in His eternal care.
Asberry was known for his joyful spirit and loving personality. He was always happy and was truly a jokester at heart. His infectious smile brought joy to everyone he encountered. He loved the Lord and found great joy in praying and having church with his siblings.
Asberry was preceded in death by two brothers, Lavern DeWitt and Nathaniel DeWitt; and four sisters, Helen Green (Buddy), Edna Mae Zimmon (Eddie), Janie Simon (Henry) and Maggie Smith.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: one sister, Mary DeWitt; two special nieces whom he loved as his daughters, Katrina Roberts and Monyette Awkward; a special niece, Michelle Zimmon; a host of nieces and nephews; and one special friend, Linda Bolton.
Though he is no longer with us in body, Asberry’s love, laughter and faith will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
