Mr. Anthony V. Smith

It is with deepest regret that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Smith family announces the homegoing of Mr. Anthony V. Smith of New York, formerly of Darlington, SC.  Mr. Smith passed on Friday, November 25, 2022 in New York. 

Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 1:00PM at McCall's Bronxwood Funeral Home in Bronx, New York.  

Funeral service in South Carolina is 2:00PM on Monday, December 12, 2022 in Mt. Rona Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow. 

Obituary

     Anthony “Tony” Vernon Smith was born on July 10, 1964 at New York Hospital to the late Alma McCall Smith and Ronald V. Smith, who preceded him in death. He entered his final resting place on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Jacobi Medical Center.

     Tony graduated from Alfred E. Smith High School in the Bronx in 1982. Tony earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the College of New Rochelle in 2000.

    At an early age, Tony found a love of mentoring children. In the late 80s, he served as a Social Worker for the Service for the Underserved in New York City. He then became a Teacher for the New York City Board of Education for several years. In October 2005, he became a New York City Probation Officer for Juvenile Offenders where he worked in various assignments throughout the agency within the Bronx. The most recent assignment the Bronx Family Services. Tony took pride in his work and enjoyed working with the youth. He served until his passing, where he was honored to receive the respect of his colleagues.

     Although he didn’t have children of his own, Tony always gave fatherly love to many. He also had a love for music, sports, and travel which he did so often.

     Those who shared the joys of life with him and survived to cherish his memory are: his siblings, Vanessa McCall Robinson (Florence, SC), Jessica L. Smith (New York, NY), Freddie Charles Jr. (Bronx, NY) and Dion Charles (Bronx, NY); nephews, Le’Vert (Rolaine) Robinson (Darlington, SC) and Jeremy Antonio Robinson (Darlington, SC); nieces, Athena Jasmine Robinson (New York, NY) and Brittany L. Robinson (Hempstead, NY); loving aunts, Lizzie McCall (Hartsville, SC), Irene McCall (Newport News, VA) and Sarah Gilbert (Lamar, SC); uncle, Arthur Charles (Ansonia, CT); special friend and family, Diana Rolle (Bronx, NY) and godson, Alex McFarland (Bronx, NY).

     Anthony “Tony” Vernon Smith leaves behind a multitude of cousins, extended family and devoted friends to cherish his memory.
