Obituary

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff and members of the George family announce the passing of Mr. Anthony George of Florence, SC, formally of Lamar, SC.  Mr. George transitioned on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at his sister's residence in Florence following an illness. 

Funeral service is 1:00PM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Savannah Grove AME Church. Interment will be private. 

Obituary

Mr. Anthony Christopher George was born in Lamar, SC on December 18,1965, a son of Minnie Lee Blathers George and the late Alton George, Sr. He entered his final resting place on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at his residence.

He received his formal education in the Darlington County School District and was a graduate of Lamar High School Class of 1984.

He resided in Seneca, SC for approximately thirty years. There, he was employed in restaurant food service.  Due to declining health, he relocated to Florence, SC.

Anthony was united in marriage to the former Julia Sloan, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2021.

Anthony’s leisure time was spent watching movies and listening to all genres of music. He enjoyed the entire series of March Madness. Lamar Silver Foxes Football Team was very dear to him; therefore, he continuously tracked the team’s success.

Survivors left to cherish is memory are: his children, Mitchell Sloan and Nychell Sloan both of Walhalla, SC; his mother, Minnie Lee George of Darlington, SC; his siblings, Virginia (Allen) Bacote of Darlington, SC, Dr. Mary E. Timmons of Florence, SC, Wesley George, Ronnie George both of Lamar, SC and  Alton George, Jr. of Newport New, VA; two sisters- in- law, Edell George and Alberta George both of Lamar, SC; four grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends; his caregiver, Harry Patterson.

In addition to his wife and father, he was preceded in death by:  his siblings: Bethania Dargan, Ulysses George, Iva Lee Brunson and Bubba George; sister-in-law, Darlene George; brother-in-law, Harry Brunson; nephew, Elandus Prince.

Anthony Will You Stay!

Mitchell will prepare you one of those steaks you love. Will you stay.

Nychell will make sure your hair cut is straight.

Mama is going to make you a six-layer chocolate cake. Will you stay.

Jana’ has a bottle of good smelling Cologne for you. Will you stay.

Bee will make you a guitar. Will you Stay.

Ella will make sure you get a large tax refund. Will you Stay.

Ronnie will make your car run like a sewing machine. Will you Stay.

Charlie will teach you how to get a high score on your test. Will you stay.

Your nieces and nephews will sang, listen to good music, laugh, cook dance, and tell your stories

. Will you stay. I will always be with you, wherever you are.

My answer is Nope! Nope! Nope!

I cannot stay.
