Obituary for Alphonso Ross
Alphonso Ross, age 70, of Darlington, South Carolina, passed away on April 20, 2026, following a sudden illness.
Alphonso was born on November 9, 1955, in Darlington, South Carolina, to the late Donella Alford Ross and Frank Ross Sr. He attended public schools in Darlington County and spent his early years working at Clanton’s. Later, he dedicated himself to logging work until his health began to decline.
Alphonso was known for his vibrant spirit and love for life. He truly enjoyed dancing, having fun, and bringing joy to those around him. He was often described as “the life of the party,” always lifting the mood with his energy, laughter, and presence. His love for family and good times will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Jacqulyn Sparks, Nanee Sparks, Sharon Sparks, and Ellis Sparks; along with six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters: Eloise Ross, Darlene Ross, and Mae Mouzon; his brothers: Johnny (Rose) Ross, Tyrone Ross, and Eddie Lee Baker; a special brother-in-law, Heyward Mumford, and sister-in-law, Eloise Baker. Alphonso also leaves behind a special companion, Linda Dubose, along with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who all shared a meaningful place in his life.
In addition, he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Alphonso was preceded in death by his parents, Donella Alford Ross and Frank Ross Sr.; his sisters, Mae Francis Wilson and Sarah Slater; and his brothers, Leroy Baker, Frank Baker Jr., James Edward Baker, and Roosevelt Ross, his aunt, Myrtle Harris and an uncle, Leroy Ross.
