It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Alfonzer Johnson of Darlington. Mr. Johnson passed on Sunday, July 19, 2020 in a Florence hospice house.
Funeral service will be 11:00AM on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Faith Memorial Gardens. Interment will follow.
“Obituary”
phonzer Johnson, Affectionately known as "Al", was born to Mrs. Dorothy M. Thomas and the late Mr. George Evans, on May 19, 1948. Al attended school in Darlington County, as a youth. Al was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Darlington, as well. Al worked for Nucor Steel and he retired in construction. He was known as a "lumber-jack of all trades"; he would cut a tree down for you or whatever else you needed!
Al was a hard worker, and a very dependable brother, friend, and coworker.
Al was a prankster. He loved to play jokes on his loved ones; like calling his mom everyday pretending to be someone else. His mother, Mrs. Thomas, was his best friend.
Al was a caring person who helped everyone he could. If you would call him, he would be right there.
On July 19, 2020, Al departed life following a long bout with Cancer, at McLeod Hospice House of Florence, SC.
Al was predeceased by his father, Mr. George Evans; brother, Anthony "Chris" (Thomasina) Pompey; and grandmother, Rilla McClain.
Al is survived by his mother Mrs. Dorthy M. Thomas; of Waldorf, MD; brothers, Larry McCoy; of Darlington, SC; Jerry Murray; of Darlington, SC; Michael (Vivian) Thomas; of Darlington, SC; sisters, Supreme Johnson Oneal; of Paterson, NJ; Doris McCoy; of Darlington, SC; Deloris (Karl) Barcus; of Florence, SC; Tina (Yancy) Alexander; of Waldorf, MD; grandson, Tajohn; of Baltimore, MD; his companion, Dot Oliver; of Darlington, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews.
