It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Jacobs and Moses Families share the passing of Mother Maybelle Jacob Moses. Mother Moses transitioned peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at McLeod Hospice House following an illness. 

A celebration of life will be 12:30PM on Friday, July 1, 2022 in the Lawson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment will follow.

Obituary

Mrs. Maybelle Jacobs Moses, affectionately known as “Mel”, was born on December 06, 1930 in Darlington, South Carolina. She was the fourth oldest child of the late Louie and Mary Davis Jacobs. She departed this life on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina.

Maybelle was educated in the Public School of Darlington County. She was united in marriage to the late Mr. Huey Moses and to this union was born nine children.

“Mel”, as we all knew and loved, was a homemaker and dedicated her time to her family and friends. She loved to cook and sew, and no one could resist the famous homemade biscuits that she made daily.

Maybelle leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories: her children: Beulah Troy, Ernestine Moses, Albert (Betty) Moses, Jimmy (Retha) Moses, Linda Mingo, Kay Ann (Ivory) Eaddy, Tony Moses, Eunice “Connie” Wilson, Donnie (Clara) Moses; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren,; five sisters: Mrs. Sadie Muldrow of Wilmington, NC, Mrs. Nora Brown of Greensboro, NC, Mrs. Wilhelmenia Daniels, Mrs. Annie Laura Hudson, Mrs. Alice (late Elder Jerry) Abson, all of Darlington, SC; two brothers: Mr. Wesley (late Evangelist Mamie) Jacobs of Darlington and Mr. Melvin Jacobs of Baltimore, MD; one brother-in-law, Mr. Woodrow McDaniel of Darlington, SC; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Dewitt of Richmond, VA and Lila Mae Montgomery of Winston-Salem, NC; one aunt, Mrs. Goldie Davis of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends which she cared for dearly.

Maybelle was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Huey Moses, a loving son-in-law, Allen Mingo; and two grandchildren: Debra L. Troy and Jarrett Dials.

Visitation for relatives and friends of Mother Maybelle Moses is held at 1451 South Center Road, Darlington.
