It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc., and the Williams family share the transition of Mother Mattie Mae Williams. Mother Williams exchanged time for eternity on Friday, July 27, 2024, at her residence in Lamar with her family by her side. 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, August 2, 2024, at Unity Mission Pentecostal Church, Lamar, SC. Interment will follow the service at Sandy Grove UMC Church Cemetery, Lamar, SC.

Obituary

   Mattie Mae “Mint” Williams was born in Darlington County on July 27, 1928, to the late Sylvester and Elizabeth Lucas, the oldest of seven children. She departed this earthly realm on July 27, 2024. 

    “Mint,” as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was a loving, caring soul that would help anyone in need. She loved doing word search puzzles and coloring in her many coloring books. She also enjoyed knitting, and she was a considered a very good seamstress. 

    Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Dock Williams; two sisters, Evalina Hudson and Luella Peoples; and one brother, Rufus Lucas.  

    Those left to cherish her memories are: three daughters: Mary Lee (Ramsay) Ballard, Geraldine Lucas, and Rev. Fannie (Robert) Robinson; four sons: Leroy Williams, Joseph (Greta) Williams, Eddie Williams and Roosevelt Williams; one brother, J. L. Lucas; one sister, Ruth Williams; a special sister with whom she was raised, Altha Mae “Mutt” Davis; 5 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchild; 6 nephews; 3 nieces; and a host of other relatives and close friends. 

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 22 Mission Lane, Lamar, SC.
