Mother Doris Washington Obituary

It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mother Doris Washington of Darlington.  Mother. Washington expired on Sunday, August 29, 2021 in McLeod Hospice House following an illness.  

Funeral service is 11:00AM on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Church Yard of Nazereth Apostolic Church, Hartstville with Bishop Vera Davis, officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Please adhere to social distancing and mask wearing. 

Obituary  

   “For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.”                        II Timothy 4:6-8

     Mother Doris Washington was born in Camden, South Carolina on September  29, 1939 a daughter of the late Fred Bracey and Nancy Brown Spencer.  She entered into her final resting place on  Sunday, August 29, 2021 in McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.

    She received her formal education in the Kershaw County Public School system.

    Doris relocated to Washington, DC and later moved to Brooklyn, NY where she met and married Roosevelt Washington.   While in New York, she was employed as a Teller at Chase National Bank. After retirement, she and her husband relocated to Darlington, SC where they became members of Nazareth Apostolic Church In Jesus Christ, Inc. in Hartsville, SC.  There, she was the Mother of the Church and everyone loved her.

     Mother Washington was a lovely wife, mother, grandmotherand friend.  She took care of her husband, Roosevelt Washington until his departure in 2006.  After her mother, Nancy Spencer, became ill in Washington, DC she moved her mother with her to take care of her until her demised.

    Those left to cherish her precious memory are: two sons: Paul Johnson and Stanley Johnson; five grandchildren: James Johnson, Jr., Thea Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Maria Jefferson and Jemell Bobb-Semple; 10 great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a host other relatives: The Richardson family, the Brown family and friends.

  She was preceded in death by: her children: Diane Johnson and James “Jimmy” Johnson.
