Miss Dora "Bemp" Singletary Obituary

It is with deepest sympathy that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Miss Dora Singletary of 170 Hall Street, Society Hill.  Miss Singletary transitioned on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at her residence. 

Funeral service is 2:00PM on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Betheseda Baptist Church Cemetery.  Interment will follow. Mask wearing and social distancing is required. 

Obituary

     “For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.”                      II Timothy 4:6-8

   Miss Dora Lou Ester Singletary was born in Darlington, South Carolina on October 30, 1951 a daughter of the late Robert Singletary and Queen Ester Campbell Singletary.  She quietly and peacefully entered her final resting place on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at her residence in Society Hill.

    She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Rosenwald High School.

     At an early age, she joined Bethesda Baptist Church where she was a faithful member.

    Dora lived all her adult life in Society Hill where she was gainfully employed at the Old Klopman Mill, Galey Lord and lastly at Delta Mill until her health declined.

    “Bemp”, as she was affectionately known, and to others as “Queen B” was a lively, upbeat person who loved people. She was a people person and everybody knew and loved her.  She will be truly missed by her family, friends, church family and former co-workers.

     Those left to cherish her memory are:  her loving and devoted daughter, Sharon R. Singletary of Darlington, SC;  her two grandchildren: (the apple of her eye and her heartbeats: Ja’Daysia S. Richardson and Ja’Darius S. Richardson both of Darlington, SC; six brothers: Travis Singletary (Teressa King) of the home, Edward Singletary, Tony (Evelyn) Singletary both of Society Hill, SC, Terry Singletary of Cheraw, SC, Jerome (Patty) Singletary of Darlington, SC and Jerry (RaShunne) Singletary of Houston, TX; four sisters: Phyllis (Herbert) Walls, Teresa Williams both of  Society Hill, SC, Liza Ann (Lorenzo) McClain of Darlington, SC and Roslyn Smith of Brooklyn, NY; an aunt, Charlotte Singletary of Brooklyn, NY; her two riding partners, Doretha Benjamin of Darlington, SC and Tara Grant of Society Hill, SC; a god-daughter, DeVoshia Gatlin of Cheraw, SC; a god-son, Gerald Tavares Green of Columbia, SC; a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

     She was preceded in death by in addition to her parents: two brothers: Kenneth Singletary and Derek Singletary; a sister, Carolyn Singletary; a special cousin, Geraldine Joseph; her brother-in-law, Frank Williams.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 170 Hall Street, Society Hill, daily beginning at 3:00PM.  Mask wearing is required to visit the home.
