Obituary

Imam James R. Muhammad was born in Darlington County on March 17, 1938, a son of the late Calhoun and Ida Sweet Gandy. He departed this life on Monday, January 3, 2022 at his residence after an illness.

James received his education in the Darlington County Public School System attending Rosenwald High School.

He became a member of the Muslim Religion.  Raoof met Imam Mohammed Idris in the sixties at Temple #7 in New York City.  Raoof was a very dedicated and sincere follower of the Honorable Elijah Mohammed leader of the Nation of Islam.  He attended all Fruit of Islam Classes. He sold Mohammed Speak Newspaper daily.  He stood security weekly and traveled to Chicago annually at the convention.  As was said above, he was very sincere.  As that sincerity, it led him to be called to Chicago to start driving our 16 wheeler trucks across the United States delivering Food Products and our Mohammed Speaks Newspaper to cities throughout America.

He was a protector of the Natural Status of the Human Being.  He was always giving more than he received.  He was a person that you could always call on.  He always had a good word to say.  He was a true believer in God and a follower of Prophet Mohammed.  Peace and Blessings be upon the Prophet.

James was also employed at SOCAR Steel Plant from which he retired. After retirement, James worked at New Generation Adult Day Center in Florence, SC until his health began to decline.
