Deaconess Mattie Taylor Cannon Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Deaconess Mattie Taylor Cannon.  Deaconess Cannon transitioned peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at her daughter's residence following a brief illness.  

Funeral service is 11:00 AM on Friday, April 2, 2021 in Hart No. 2 Cemetery.  Interment will follow.  Please adhere to social distancing and mask wearing while attending this service. 

Obituary

        “For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto allthem also that love His appearing.”                        II Timothy 4:6-8

    Deaconess Mattie Taylor Cannon was born October 31, 1960 the daughter of the late Alonzo Taylor, Sr. and Mary BlaneTaylor.  She entered into her eternal rest on Saturday, March 27, 2021 in Florence, SC.

    Mattie attended the public schools of Florence County where she graduated from Wilson High School Class of 1978.

    Mattie was a member of New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, a member of the Praise Team and Choir.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Cannon, Jr.; two brothers: Willie James Taylorand Harry Taylor.

  Those left to cherish her love and memories are:  one daughter, Tonisha (Randall) Law of Florence, SC; two sons: Derek (Crystal) Taylor of Florence, SC and Deontay (Precious Seegars) Greene of Darlington, SC; five grandchildren: Rondell Law, Mark Law, Nyesha Law all of Florence, SC, Delilah Seegars of Darlington and DaQuan Barr of Florence, SC; one sister, Mary Ann Mullins; five brothers: Thomas Taylor, Alonzo (Reatha) Taylor, Jr., Charlie (Shena) Taylor all of Darlington, SC, Calvin Taylor and Robert L. Taylor both of Florence, SC; god-daughter, Cleneshia Woods; special friends: CapreciaGreen, Ileta, Howard, Nola Echols, Emma Price, Kenneth Price, Stephanie Price and Barbara Hudson; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is being held at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, 413 South McQueen Street, Florence.
