Deacon Louis “Bug” Jeffery, Jr. Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Deacon Louis Jeffery, Jr., affectionately called Bug, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 18, 2021 in a Florence hospital following an illness. 

Funeral service is 11:00 AM on Sunday, July 25, 2021 in the church yard of Palmetto Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

Obituary

    Mr. Louis “Bug” Jeffery, Jr. was born March 14, 1956 in Darlington, SC the oldest son of the late Louis “Pops” Jeffery,Sr. and Pearlena Wright Jeffery. He entered into his final resting place on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Medical University of SC, Florence, SC.

    He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools graduating from Mayo High School Class of 1974 where he was a school bus driver. After high school, he moved to Florida for a while and returned to Darlington and began working for  Dixie Cup Company. Later, he moved to Connecticut to work for Sikorsky where he repaired military air craft parts for over 5 years. He returned to SC and obtained his CDL license and worked as a truck driver for 25 years. He retired from Rider as a truck driver working for Otis Elevator. 

    Mr. Jeffery was a member of Mt. Ephraim Baptist church for 20 years and later became Assistant Superintendent, Deacon and guitar player for Palmetto Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington, SC.

    Mr. Jeffery had a love for horses and was the Original President of the Knight Riders Saddler Club.

    Anyone that has ever met him knew how much he loved his family and friends. 

And whenever or wherever you saw him he would be wearing his cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and shades.  He was always willing to help anyone he could and always had a smile and a wonderful sense of  humor. 

    Mr. Jeffery leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife of 42 years, ShuShelia Jeffery of the home in Timmonsville, SC; 6 children: Stormy (Kureen) Paige of Newport News, VA, Tedrick Jeffery of Timmonsville, SC, Jessica Jeffery of Charlotte, NC, Matthew Jeffery of Timmonsville, SC, Whitney (Stoney) Duprey of Florence, SC and Erica Goodson of Darlington, SC; 3 grandchildren: Ashia Gurley, Naeemah Paige both of Newport News, VA, and Mi’Angel McLaughlin of Florence, SC; 2 great-grand children: Alexandra Scott of Newport News, VA and Journey Duprey of Florence, SC; his last surviving sibling, Levelle (Helen) Jeffery of Darlington, SC;  5 sisters-in-laws, 1 brother-in-law; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

     Mr. Jeffery was preceded in death by: his sister, the late JuliaIlene Squire of Darlington SC.
