It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Leroy “Spook” Curtis of Darlington. Mr. Curtis passed on Monday, May 3, 2021 in a Florence Hospital.
Funeral service is 1:00pm on Saturday, May 8, 2021 in Faith Memorial Gardens. Interment will follow. Please adhere to mask wearing and social distancing during this service.
Obituary
Mr. Leroy "Spook" Curtis was born in Darlington, SC on November 4, 1933 a son of the late Lille Mae Curtis. He was called home to rest from his labour on Monday, May 3, 2021 in McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.
Leroy was raised in Darlington, SC and attended Darlington County Public School System. He was employed at CSX Railroad for over 35 years and retired in 1995.
He was a proud and faithful member of Faith Holiness Church where he served as a Deacon.
He was preceded in death by: his mother, Lillie Mae Curtis;his loving wife, Rosa Bell Curtis and his brother, James E McCurry.
Those left to cherish his precious memory are: his fourdaughters: Natasha Smalls (his "Baby"), Teresa Curtis, KawinaMcIntosh and Dee McIntosh; his four sons: Leroy Curtis, Jr, Leon Curtis, Tony Curtis and Rico Curtis; his eight step-children: Douglas (Tyra) Wright, Jonathan Smalls, Wiley Smalls, Quentina Smalls, Everette Gandy, Kendell Gandy, Sherielle Gandy and Sheireckia Gandy; a very special cousin, Sadie Curtis; two sisters: Joann Cannon and Wanda (Donald) Kettler; three brothers: William Cannon, Steve Cannon and Herbert McCurry; three grandchildren: SiQuji Dawkins, DaVajiSmalls and TaAhji Wells; four great grandchildren; he also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation is held at the residence, 614 Chestnut St. Darlington.
