It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the transition of Deacon Douglas Brunson, Sr. of Darlington. Deacon Brunson exchange mortality for immortality on Sunday, October 10, 2021 in the comfort of his home surrounded by family. 

Life Celebration will be 1:00PM on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Campus of Round O Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Round O Baptist Church Cemetery.  Please adhere to social distancing and mask wearing while attending this service.

Deacon Douglas Brunson, Sr. entered his final resting place on Sunday morning, October 10th, 2021 at his home after an illness. He was born in Darlington County on December 7th, 1928 the son of the late Mr. Frank Brunson, Sr. and Amanda Samuel Brunson.

He received his formal education in Darlington County Public Schools.

He was employed by South Carolina Department of Transportation where he was the first African American Supervisor at the highway department.  He retired after forty plus years of service.  Deacon Brunson continued to work independently as a carpenter for many years, a trade and skill he loved. After fully retiring some of his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing.

Deacon Brunson became a member of Round O Missionary Baptist Church in 1944 where he served as a member of the Senior Choir, Men’s Choir, former Chairman of the Deacon Board, member of the Pastor’s Aide, Assisted with cleaning off the church land, Usher Board and Trustee Board, member of the Missionary Ministry and Round O Homecoming Committee.

He was also a member of East Bound Masonic Lodge #147.

He was married twice, first to the late Sarah Williams Brunson and to this union a son was born, Douglas Brunson, Jr. after her passing he was united in marriage to the late Margaret W. Brunson

Deacon Brunson was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors left to cherish Deacon Douglas Brunson's memory are: his loving son, Mr. Douglas (Margie) Brunson, Jr. of Darlington, SC;  three step-daughters: Ms. Diane Williamson, Ms. Jennifer Williamson, Ms. Kimberly Williamson all of Darlington, SC; two sisters: Mrs. Marie B. Alford and Mrs. Angelia “Ann” (Danny) Cannon of Darlington, SC; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by: two sisters: Mrs. Rozena Smith and Mrs. Dorothy Miller; two brothers:  Mr. Frank Brunson Jr. and Mr. Claude Brunson.
