It is is sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Rachel Delaine Harvey of Bronx, New York, formally of Darlington.  

Funeral service will be 1:00PM on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 at Bethesda Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

On September 24, 2019, Rachel Delaine Harvey departed her earthly home to take up a new residence with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Rachel was born May 3, 1937 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late James and Lizzie Delaine. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at the age of 15 by Rev. W.M. Anderson at Bethesda Baptist Church in Society Hill.

Rachel received her education at Rosenwald High School and graduated in June 1955. She worked as a Special Needs educator and retired from the Board of Education as a Para-Professional after 24 years of service.

Rachel met and married Samuel Harvey Sr. in October 1961. From this union two sons were born Samuel Jr. and Kenneth.

Rachel joined Greater Central Baptist Church in January 1970 under the leadership of Rev. P.L. Mouzon. Deacon Jake McIver was her deacon up until her demise.  She was affiliated with many organizations within the church such as Baptist Training and Nurses Unit, United Missionary Baptist Association Congress Department, Empire State Congress of Christian Education, Jubilee Choir, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for over 40 years. Rachel was also the church van driver for 21 years.

Rachel was preceded in death by her; husband, Samuel Harvey Sr.; son Samuel Jr.; parents, James and Lizzie Delaine sister, Hattie Shepard; brothers, James Sr., Collin and Johnny Delaine.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Kenneth (Vanessa) Harvey, granddaughter, Nia Joy Harvey; three brothers, Thurlo (Olivia) Delaine of Florence, Deacon Connell (Dorothy) Delaine SGM(r) of Society Hill, Albertus (Louise) Delaine of Hartsville; two sisters, Mabel Evans of New York, Geraldine Dixon of Florence; one aunt, Rozena Robinson of Society Hill, one uncle, Delone Jones of Waterbury, Connecticut; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Family recieving friends from 4 to 8pm daily at the home of a brother and sister-in-law, Deacon Connell and Dorothy Delaine, 3857 Society Hill Road, Society Hill.
