“Bless be to God and Father our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Compassion and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”                                 ~2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Evelena, affectionately called Mickey, Blue, or Byrd, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. Evelena was the seventh child of eight siblings born to Edgar and Lidar Mack Price.  She entered this world so fiercely on June 20, 1952 and shockingly departed on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Evelena was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Lamar, SC, where she joined at an early age. Educated in the public schools of Darlington County, graduate of Spaulding High School, Lamar, South Carolina, Class of 1970 and Morris College, Sumter, South Carolina, class of 1974.

Evelena was a dedicated employee of Darlington County School District as a bus driver for many years, and also worked other jobs in the area.  She later retired in 2003.  She volunteered her services and quality time in sports, which she loved to do, and most of all working with children.  She never met a stranger, and no matter who she came across, it was never a dull moment.

Evelena was President of The Umpire Association for Coastal Athletic League, member of Spaulding Alumni Association, Recreational Football Coach, Spaulding Middle School Sports Staff and President of Spaulding High School Class of 1970. She was a compassionate and devoted person who would speak her mind tirelessly and get the job done.

Evelena, was preceded in death by her parents, the late Edgar and Lidar Mack Price; a sister, Marjorie Price Martin and a brother, Harry Lee Price.

Evelena leaves to cherish her “Precious Memories”: two sons, Antoine Kurry Price and David Price of Lamar, SC; three daughters: Twannia Price of Lumberton, NJ, Latoyta Price of Columbia, SC and Malisha Price of Fayetteville, NC; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; a nephew, Walter Pettigrew, Jr.; two nieces, Shayla Pettigrew and Nytia Pettigrew who she helped raise as her very own; four brothers: Richard Price, Bennie Price both of Lamar, SC, Frankie Price of Quinby, SC and Gerald (Saundra) Price of Florence, SC; a sister, Edna Louise Pettigrew of Lamar, SC; one uncle, William “Bill” (Doris) Mack of Brooklyn, NY; two aunts, Catherine Reid of Clio, SC and Sally (Aaron) Green of Brooklyn, NY;  a host of special loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; Mr. Timothy Charles who she mentored for over thirty years.  She was a patriot to many that appreciate her so dearly.  Evelena will be sadly missed by her loved ones and all who knew her.
