It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of the Mrs. Emma Lee Lucas of Lamar. Mrs. Lucas passed on Thursday, April 11, 2019 in a Florence medical facility.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Outreach Community Church, Lamar. Burill will follow in Sandy Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.
~Obituary~
“For now I am ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” II Timothy 4:6-8
Mrs. Emma Lee Gilmore Lucas, was born in Lee County on October 12, 1941, a daughter of the late Burnice and Gertrude Rogers Gilmore. She peacefully entered into her final resting place on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.
She received her formal education in Lee County Public Schools. For many years she worked at American Manufactory in Lamar, SC. She also worked at Craig’s Industry in Lamar, SC until her retirement.
At an early age, she became a member of Sandy Grove United Methodist Church, but later in life moved her membership to Outreach Community Church in Lamar, SC. Emma was a founding member of Outreach Community Church where she served as a Missionary.
On August 16, 1957, she married her best friend J.L. Lucas and this union was blessed with three children.
“Key”, as she was affectionately known by her family was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents: Burnice and Gertrude Gilmore; five brothers: Isaac, Otis, Willie and Alphonso Gilmore and Jesse Booker; one sister Bernice Mae James.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 61 years, J. L. Lucas of the home; a daughter, Angeline Lucas of Lamar, SC; two sons: Jeffery (Rose) Lucas of Capital Heights, MD and Royn Lucas of Prosperity, SC; a brother, Donald R. (Sheron) Gilmore of Washington, DC; a sister, Vone Gilmore of Lamar, SC; an uncle, I. J. Gilmore of Lamar, SC; five sisters-in-law: Lendell Gilmore of New York, Virginia Gilmore of Oates, SC, Ruth Williams, Mattie Williams and Mary Lee Ballard all of Bishopville, SC; six grandchildren: Jenna (Antwain) Miles, Jeffery II, Jayron, Atlantis, Ronaysia and Brianna; three great grandchildren: Antwainett, Antwain II and JaNyah; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at the residence 215 South Darlington Avenue, Lamar.
