Mrs. Dorothy Lee Edwards Banks

It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Lee Edwards Banks of Darlington.  Mrs. Banks passed on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at her residence.  

Funeral service will be 12 Noon on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Salem Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

“God saw the road was getting rough, the hills too hard to climb; so he gently closed her loving eyes and whispered ‘Peace be thine’.”

Ms. Dorothy Lee Edwards Banks was born in Florence, SC on March 26, 1941 a daughter of the late Leo Edwards Sr. and Dorothy Mae Lide Edwards.  She entered into her final resting place on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at her residence.

She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools.

Dorothy attended St. Matthews United Church in Darlington at an early age. She later made home in Norwalk, CT for more than 40 years. While there, she was employed as a Chef at Skippers Restaurant & Pier until she retired.  She returned back home to Darlington..

She was united in marriage to the late Thomas Herbert “Sonny” Banks.  “Booty”, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was a loving and giving person.  She was a hard worker who cared for her family.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are:  four sons: Charles (Theresa) Edwards of Darlington, SC, William “Billy” (Marlene) Banks of Stone Mountain, GA, Theodore Banks (Sheila) of Norwalk, CT and Vincent Banks of Columbia, SC; six daughters: Faye Marlowe of NY, Temple Davis, Tomasina Banks,  Kim Folston all of Norwalk, CT and Nicole Benjamin of Darlington, SC; 23 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; four sisters: Bessie Muldrow of Darlington, Pearl Shepard, Cathy (Harry) Faulkner of New York and Betty Jean Edwards of Connecticut; one brother, Leo Edwards of Darlington; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter; her siblings: Eva Mae Edwards Pemberton, Alphonso Edwards and Jimmy Edwards.

Visitation for the Edwards/Banks families will be held at the residence, 116 Kirven Street, Darlington.
