It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Daisy Almeta Bacote Chapman of Society Hill, formally of Lanham, MD. Mrs. Chapman transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, January 20, 2020 at a Florence Hospice Facility.
Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Glenarden, MD. Burial will follow in Harmony Memorial Park Cemetery in Landover, MD directed by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, PA.

Mrs. Daisy Almeta Bacote Chapman, affectionately known as "Meta", was born December 26, 1921. She left her earthly body on January 20, 2020. She was the second daughter of 12 children of the late Terry and Julia Antrum-Bacote. Educated in Society Hill, South Carolina at Rosenwald School, Caulter Academy, Caulter Junior College and later graduating from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. She continued her education at New York University, Columbia University, Hunter College, Goucher College and Morgan State University earning a Master’s Degree in Education.
From birth, she was on the church's roles. Baptized at Bethesda Baptist Church in Society Hill, South Carolina. In 1945-1950, she was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York and from 1969 until her death a proud member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Glenarden, Maryland.
In 1958, Daisy Almeta Bacote met and married her friend, soulmate and love of her life, Robert Garret Chapman. They were a loving couple until his death on January 6, 1990. Daisy B. Chapman lived a beautiful, accomplished and fulfilling life. She taught Mathematics and French, lived around the world in Europe, Baltimore, the Carolinas and New York City. She served the community and Town Council of Glenarden, filling many roles including Librarian, Director of Recreation, Financial Secretary and Chairperson. In 1995, County Executive Wayne Curry name her Prince Georgean of the Year.
She not only served her community, but wherever needed with her church, family and friends. Meta was a surrogate grandmother, caregiver, executor of estates and all around kind, dependable, loving person.
She is preceded in death by six brothers; Perry, Franklin, Albert, James, Julius, and Eugene Bacote and three sisters; Rosa Mae B. McFarlin, Juanita B. Jones and Lillian B. Alford.
Left to cherish her memory are: one sister: Alma B. Johnson, five nieces (Geraldine Bacote, Rose Marie Butler-Jackson, Valerie Bacote, Deborah Bacote, and Kim Jones), nine nephews (Alfred Bacote, William Prince McFarlin, Antoine Johnson, Lloyd Alford, Andre Johnson, William Bacote, Roderick Bacote, Vincent Bacote and Robert Bacote) a host of great and great-great nieces, nephews as well as former students and colleagues.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at 7922 Johnson Avenue, Lanham, MD.
