Our soul waiteth for the Lord: He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.”                              Psalm 33:20-22

Ms. Cora Mae Brunson Hammonds, lovingly known as “Georgia Mae”, was born on September 14, 1953 in Darlington, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Leroy Brunson and Janie Mae Robinson Rouse.  She was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 5, 2019 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.

She received her formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools.  During her early years of living, she worked as a laborer on Farms and as an employee for Sara Lee Hosiery.  “Georgia Mae” loved to  cook, as well as, housekeeping.  In which that was her job classification  during her employment with Sara Lee Hosiery.  Her heart was pure and being of any help to others was not a burden.  In her later years, she enjoyed being a caretaker for elderly individuals.  Her strength was in lending a helping hand to those in need.  She loved everyone and in her mind, no one was a stranger.  We knew to expect her visits to include food or a bag of sweet potatoes.  To know her was to love her.  She was an independent woman and remained active until her demise.

In previous years, “Georgia Mae” attended Shining Light Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Janie Wilds. She later joined and became a member of Salvation Temple Apostolic Holiness Church under the leadership of District Elder George McElveen where she was saved and baptized in Jesus name where she served on the Missionary Choir, a member of the Usher Board and Cook Team.

She was preceded in death by her parents:  Leroy Brunson and Janie Mae Robinson Rouse; her son, Quincy Lee Richardson; her sisters: Ruby Robinson and Mary “Mae Frances” McIver; her brothers: Edward Brunson and Charles Brunson.

Survivor left to cherish her loving memory are:  her daughter, Lanie (Roy) McPhail of Hartsville, SC; her three sons: Joseph Brunson, William Richardson, and Toney Richardson all of Hartsville, SC; her grandchildren of whom she reared: Joseph Brunson “Chyna” and Bryson Richardson both of Hartsville, SC; her two brothers, Leroy  Brunson “Trish” of Hartsville, SC and Ronnie Brunson of Darlington, SC; her sister: Lorane Robinson of Pompano Beach, FL; she was a the grandmother of twenty-three grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; special friends/family: Ree Brunson, Mazalene Graham, Bay Williamson, Maejessie Hamilton and Helen McPhail.
