It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell- Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Willie Benton of Darlington. On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, Mr. Benton exchanged time for eternity at a Florence Medical Facility.
Funeral service will be 12 Noon Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Cherry Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow on June 5, 2019 in Hamden Plains Cemetery, Hamden, CT.

Mr. Willie Benton, Jr. was born in Darlington, South Carolina on August 22, 1930 a son of the late Willie Benton, Sr. and Susan Benjamin Benton. He entered into his final resting place on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, SC.
He received his formal education in the Darlington County Public Schools.
He was united in holy matrimony to Creola Gardner Benton and to this union 17 children were born; He was preceded in death by two children, Marnita and George Benton.
In 1957, he made his home in New Haven, CT where he was gainfully employed at Interstate Container for 42 years and later was employed at Sargents for 6 years. He attended The First Church of God in New Haven, CT.
In 2008, he and his wife returned home to Darlington, SC.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife of 69 years, Creola G. Benton of the home; 15 children; Robert (Ada) Benton. Horace Benton (Christine), Willie Charles Benton, Richard (Vivian) Benton, John Benton, Patricia Benton, James Benton, Sharlene (William) Perry, David Benton, Felisha Benton, Michael Benton, Myra Greene, Mark Benton and Anita Benton; 50 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Jacobs; one brother, Joel Benton; special adopted son, Richard Claxton; an aunt, Naomi Sanders; three uncles, Theodore Sanders Roland Dickey and Walter McFarland; 3 sisters-in-law: Vivian Rodriguez, Addie Gibson and Josie Townsend; 2 brothers-in-law: Sylvester (Lillian) Gardner and R. G. Gardner; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation for the Benton family will be held at the residence, 124 Pepper Drive, Darlington.
