Mr. Robert "Sonny" Curtis

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mr. Robert "Sonny" Curtis of Darlington. Mr. Curtis passed on Saturday, September 21, 2019 in a Florence Hospice facility. 

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2019 in Flat Creek Baptist Church. 

                                  ~Obituary~

Robert Lee Curtis was born in Darlington, SC on February 23, 1931 a son of the late Joseph Curtis and Martha Zimmerman Curtis.  He entered into his final resting place on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC

Robert, also known as, “Sonny”, was educated in Darlington County Public Schools.

He was a member of Round O Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a former driver for Darlington Sanitation Department and later worked for Ramsey Mills (presently called Darlington Veneer).  He became the owner and operator of his won gas station before his health declined.

Those left to cherish his memory are:  his most precious, loving, devoted and faithful wife of 67 years, Louise Dubose Curtis of Darlington, SC; his children: Mary Ann Pritchett of Baltimore, MD, Rosezenia (Ron) Johnson of Panama City, FL, Vivian (Johnny) Stephens, Robins Curtis Moses both of Darlington, SC, Patrick (Hattie) Robinson of Cleveland, OH, Bertha Spates of Columbia, SC, Arlena (Tyrone) Singletary and Cecil Gardner both of Florence, SC; a special niece he raised as his own, Carolyn Howard Wilson of New York City, NY; his siblings: Janie C. Thompson, Eletha C. Weeks both of New York City, NY and Levern C. Curtis of Darlington, SC;  a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by two children; Robert Jackson and Jimmy Curtis; two grandchildren: Korei and Deborah Bull; a son-in-law, Mack Moses; his siblings: Mary Parnell, James Alston, Elouise C. Mason, Joseph Curtis, Jr. and Samuel C. Curtis.

Visitation for relatives and friends of Mr. Curtis will be held at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. Robin Curtis-Moses, 270 Horseshoe Bend Drive, Darlington.
