It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Minister Jasper Hickman, Sr. of Bishopville.  Mr. Hickman is the husband of Mrs. Rosa Mae Hickman. Min. Hickman transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, October 17, 2019 in McLeod Hospice House.  

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Center Baptist Church, Timmonsville. Burial will follow in Hart #2 Cemetery, Darlington. Wake Services will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Monday, October 21, 2019 in the Chapel of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc.

     Minister Jasper Hickman, Sr., was born on December 24, 1938, in Marlboro County, a son of the late Henry and Sudie McMillian Hickman.  On Thursday, October 17, 2019 he gracefully entered eternal rest at McLeod’s Hospice House, Florence, SC.
     He received his formal education in the public schools of Darlington County.
     At an early age, he along with his parents and siblings attended Little Rock Holiness Church in Timmonsville, SC. 
     As an adult he married and moved to Richmond, Virginia where he attended the Third Street United Methodist Church.   In 1989, he returned to South Carolina where he united with the Center Baptist Church, then moved his membership to Little Zion Baptist Church in Bishopville, SC where he became an ordained Deacon, under the leadership of Reverend L. B. Small.  In 1997, he reunited with the Center Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Senior Missionary member, President of the Senior Choir and in 2018 he became a Minister, where he served faithfully until his health started to decline.
    He was a member of The Reformed Universal Masonic Brotherhood and O.E.S. Inc. Joshua Lodge #3 of Camden, SC Roll #5 since January 5, 1999.
    Minister Hickman is married to the former Rosa Mae Goodson and to this union seven children were born.
     He is predeceased by his parents; two sisters: Viola Stevenson and Marlene Ross; five brothers: Obie, James Arthur, Willie James, Henry Jr. and Thomas Hickman.
     Those left to cherish his fond memories are: his devoted wife of 60 years, Rosa Mae Hickman of the home; three daughters: Rozenia (Nathaniel) Clavon of Forest, VA, Betty (Samuel) Gowins of Bishopville, SC and Gwendolyn (William) Brown of Knightdale, NC; five sons: Jasper (Freda) Hickman, Jr. of Conway, SC, Jasper Eugene Hickman, Edward Hickman, Willie (Kim) Hickman and Antonio (Lisa) Hickman all of Bishopville, SC; a god-daughter Mary Alice Coe of Richmond, VA; four sisters: Ruth Coe, Ruby Goodson, Hannah (Ned) Williams and Jannie Dixon all of Darlington, SC; twenty grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

Visitation for the Hickman Family will be held at the residence of 2037 Lucknow Road, Bishopville.
